“When a Prophet Speaks*”

“When a Prophet Speaks*”

When a Prophet speaks
representing the Father
speaking through the Son
where are we found to be?

Throwing stones then to flee
what work will then be done
will we take time to bother
what will our actions speak?

Ignorance found in this bliss
most ignore and turn away
apathy controlling our time
following another instead?

Where will be our eternal bed
what will be our histories line
will we the Saviors course stay
ever attentive so as to not miss?

"2 Nephi 26:20 And the Gentiles are lifted up in the pride of their eyes, and have stumbled, because of the greatness of their stumbling block, that they have built up many churches; nevertheless, they put down the power and miracles of God, and preach up unto themselves their own wisdom and their own learning, that they may get gain and grind upon the face of the poor.
21 And there are many churches built up which cause envyings, and strifes, and malice.
22 And there are also secret combinations, even as in times of old, according to the combinations of the devil, for he is the founder of all these things; yea, the founder of murder, and works of darkness; yea, and he leadeth them by the neck with a flaxen cord, until he bindeth them with his strong cords forever.
23 For behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you that the Lord God worketh not in darkness.
24 He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw call men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation.
25 Behold, doth he cry unto any, saying: Depart from me? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; but he saith: Come unto me all ye bends of the earth, buy milk and honey, without money and without price.
26 Behold, hath he commanded any that they should depart out of the synagogues, or out of the houses of worship? Behold, I say unto you, Nay.
27 Hath he commanded any that they should not partake of his salvation? Behold I say unto you, Nay; but he hath given it free for all men; and he hath commanded his people that they should persuade all men to repentance.
28 Behold, hath the Lord commanded any that they should not partake of his goodness? Behold I say unto you, Nay; but all men are privileged the one like unto the other, and none are forbidden.
29 He commandeth that there shall be no priestcrafts; for, behold, priestcrafts are that men preach and set themselves up for a light unto the world, that they may get gain and praise of the world; but they seek not the welfare of Zion.
30 Behold, the Lord hath forbidden this thing; wherefore, the Lord God hath given a commandment that all men should have charity, which charity is clove. And except they should have charity they were nothing. Wherefore, if they should have charity they would not suffer the laborer in Zion to perish.
31 But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for if they labor for money they shall perish.
32 And again, the Lord God hath commanded that men should not murder; that they should not lie; that they should not steal; that they should not take the name of the Lord their God in vain; that they should not envy; that they should not have malice; that they should not contend one with another; that they should not commit whoredoms; and that they should do none of these things; for whoso doeth them shall perish.
33 For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them ball to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile."

“Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

*The Ten Commandments
Exodus 20:2–17
Deuteronomy 5:6–21
Exodus 34:11–27
2 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;
3 Do not have any other gods before me.
4 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,
6 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
7 You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.
8 Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.
9 For six days you shall labour and do all your work.
10 But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, your son or your daughter, your male or female slave, your livestock, or the alien resident in your towns.
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but rested the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and consecrated it.
12 Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
13 You shall not murder.
14 You shall not commit adultery.
15 You shall not steal.
16 You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
17 You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
6 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery;
7 you shall have no other gods before me.
8 You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and fourth generation of those who reject me,
10 but showing steadfast love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.
11 You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.
12 Observe the sabbath day and keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.
13 For six days you shall labour and do all your work.
14 But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, or your son or your daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or your donkey, or any of your livestock, or the resident alien in your towns, so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you.
15 Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the sabbath day.
16 Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God commanded you, so that your days may be long and that it may go well with you in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
17 You shall not murder.
18 Neither shall you commit adultery.
19 Neither shall you steal.
20 Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor.
21 Neither shall you covet your neighbor’s wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbor’s house, or field, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
11 Observe what I command you today. See, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
12 Take care not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you are going, or it will become a snare among you.
13 You shall tear down their altars, break their pillars, and cut down their sacred poles
14 (for you shall worship no other god, because the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God).
15 You shall not make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to their gods, someone among them will invite you, and you will eat of the sacrifice.
16 And you will take wives from among their daughters for your sons, and their daughters who prostitute themselves to their gods will make your sons also prostitute themselves to their gods.
17 You shall not make cast idols.
18 You shall keep the festival of unleavened bread. For seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month of Abib; for in the month of Abib you came out from Egypt.
19 All that first opens the womb is mine, all your male livestock, the firstborn of cow and sheep.
20 The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem.
No one shall appear before me empty-handed.
21 For six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even in ploughing time and in harvest time you shall rest.
22 You shall observe the festival of weeks, the first fruits of wheat harvest, and the festival of ingathering at the turn of the year.
23 Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord God, the God of Israel.
24 For I will cast out nations before you, and enlarge your borders; no one shall covet your land when you go up to appear before the Lord your God three times in the year.
25 You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven, and the sacrifice of the festival of the passover shall not be left until the morning.
26 The best of the first fruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of the Lord your God.
You shall not boil a kid in its mother’s milk.
27 The Lord said to Moses: Write these words; in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.

Now if you’ve answered “No” to any of the above questions – it’s probable that the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not fully understood. Granted everyone has problems in full understanding and knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a fully resurrected being – having a body of flesh and bone – dwelling with his Father and our Heavenly Father – at his right side – this is what’s taught in the Holy Bible (Old and New Testament) – but seldom taught in its fullness by the various venues of religion. It’s recommended that all (everyone) fully read the Old and New Testaments – prayerfully and asking for understanding (James 1:5) – asking themselves is this what I’m being taught and if not where can I learn this material which is needful for Eternal Life (which is quite different than just being Saved – which all men are (with the exception of those who shed innocent blood or deny the Holy Ghost). One needs have faith – rather than unbelief – obedience rather than disobedience – regardless how the world makes things of more worth than either truth or obedience. The world teaches not to be obedient is simply an old wives tale – it was meant for the those who lived in the past – not with those who’ve TV’s; movies; sports; fishing boats; or other worldly advantages that the scriptures could not have known about.

Wherefore am I here
seeking more to learn
the world knowing to fear
greater truth to discern;

Who am I now to become
what is the model to know
all of my life to be a sum
and as like the Son to grow;

Where can I go from here
into life everlasting in light
as God, Savior and Seer
opening all to me sight?

“Epiphany of Serendipitous Thought”

“Epiphany of Serendipitous Thought”

cji
9/20/09

Heavenly Father expects a lot from each of us - much more than most will either give or know to give or want to give. Some things are out of our control and we also know from the Scriptures that this is most wicked of all the generations of mankind to inhabit the planet (3rd from the Sun). Now what is it we should be doing? For most it's self-accountability and self-responsibility in keeping the Ten Commandments - The Statutes and The Laws of Father! Most haven't a clue as to what these are and use them only as a convenience to condemn, judge, or self justify. Further we're to watch out (this means take action where able and how able) of the sick, the homeless, the orphan, the poor, the naked and the widow! These were the laundry list of which Job's peers accused him of not doing when he was being tempted. These are the things which James and many others teach over and over - and it's also the example set by the Savior while upon the Earth. Next we should always seek the 'truth' and this is a real challenge as most would have us believe truth is only convenient to who's telling the story at the time and how many enemies they have to reword or revise if needful. However, there is truth available - but one has to dig – how many have gone back and read the works already translated from the original text's found from the periods of 3000BC to 150AD? One would guess very few - but these are not corrupted (as yet) by man (but they might be as most churches in the world tried to write them off as Gnostic rather than accept them). How many have read the Scriptures and actually prayed about them – all of them?? Most are told not to read some and to yet read others - revised for their convenience. How many allow others to decide what is truth and what is not? How many profess a love of the Savior yet ignore or kill His Prophets? How many teach that the Father and the Son are changeable and not the same yesterday, today and forever? How many would rather have the approval of peers - ignore simple truths - and be satisfied with worldly concerns than with eternal concerns? The list is endless - as whatever needs to be said has already been said by one or more Prophet's of God and man just refuses to accept what they say 'literally' (excepting the allegories used to explain an example) as they reject the Bible or other Scriptures as being literally true!! Man would rather self-indulge themselves into believing they're important and will some effect on the world or even over a part of the world. Delusional men seek power and dominion – some by any means possible. The delusional public are led to believe that a difference can be made to the inherent evil of Satan and those who choose to follow him and his angels. One can negotiate all day long with a stone - the stone for its part will sit there and not argue or disagree - it'll just most likely sit there and do nothing. One can come away from the experience thinking they accomplished something (other than to waste their time). Some will even 'revise' the script to make it seem they had a successful negotiation. All of the issues were resolved - however the stone agreed to nothing and by its silence it did nothing. However, in the realms of men - one having authority who sits and does nothing while decisions appear to be reached is giving what's known as 'passive consent' and can be legally binding. And men go away beguiled they've an agreement - legally binding only to learn that the person who sat quietly and said nothing - is an inherent liar, deceiver and believes in no law. However - and this is important - this self same liar, etc. will hold anyone who negotiates with them to all of the terms and conditions - because he/she knows they do believe in law! Thus at the Judgment Bar - Satan will invoke the Law of Justice - and only the Savior can invoke the Law of Mercy because he's paid the price of our sins. Now consider further that many who will cry for mercy at the Judgment Bar - will profess to have known the Savior - and will only hear, "Depart hence – you know me not!" They'll claim to have taught in his name - but their cause will be lost because they kept not the Commandments - nor did they harkens unto the Apostles and Prophets which have been sent to this earth – and even now stand upon it. Further, they’ve taught the Gospel of Men (Greek Philosophy i.e. rhetorical thoughts aimed to please one and all in the world), mixed with some of the doctrines found in the Scriptures. Indeed they’ve changed and reworded to deny the divinity of the Savior as the literal Son of the Father – and to make them as they would have others believe by sheer numbers and schools.
What's worse is many will feel like those above - and say we following him/her because they taught of the Savior - but yet neither they nor them sought the council or authority from a Prophet of God – instead they and those who followed them taught there was no Prophet in these latter-days and that there were no more Scriptures - and many of the things of men included their strange and incoherent creeds. Therefore, depending on who we’ve followed – will depend on whether we’ll face the Law of Justice – or have the intervention of the Law of Mercy.Heavenly Father expects us to sort through all of the trash provided by men - to sift the wheat from the tares - to glean the harvest - and to return unto our Heavenly Father and His Only Begotten (in the Flesh) our Savior. This is expecting a lot to many - but really pretty simple stuff and it makes common sense, much in difference to the confusion of the teachings of men/women of the world.

Quaking when one stops to think
eternal truths we’re able to link;

Revelations come within the light
allowing further discerning insight;

Epiphany of serendipitous thought
in common sense each is taught;

Wherein to face the Law of Justice
or the Law of Mercy for our peace;

Each Sabbath Day we come to hear
doctrine pure, in truth and clear!

"An Island"

A friend once indicated that he wishes we had an island to go to and protect our families, loved ones and ourselves. In thinking about my answer these are the thoughts which I found coming into my mind. Thus this is my short answer – deeply troubling as so many think they’ve time to be obedient.

In reality we do have an Island – the Gospel is an Island from the storms of the world – however – obedience to all of the Commandments, Covenants, Statutes and Laws is the Life Jacket and boat which will take us to the Island. Most as St. Augustine pray as follows, “Lord help me to be clean, but not just yet!” As the Prophets have said – in the past and in modern days – too many don’t want to sacrifice their sins – just yet!

I.e. On the Sabbath - one more movie on; one more football game; one more hunting trip; or in the privacy of one’s home; or on any day of the week - one more R or X rated movie; one more word of profanity; one more refusal to help those in need; one more new toy; and the list goes on and on as we remove ourselves from the island of safety and build bridges to the world and the worldly.

Most reject the island for now – like St. Augustine just wanting a little more time to sin. Knowing the island is always there and they can go to it when there’s still time. It’s like catching a train or a flight – missing it and thinking well there’ll be another. Too many in the meantime forget how to swim – sell all of their boats – don’t have a life raft or saver to wear. The trip to the island is always there but the means to get there are slowly eliminated without one even knowing they’d lost their ability to get there.

Consider the direction which some give to being in obedience to the Commandments one must choose carefully who to follow. Yes the world is great for giving excuses – football, swimming, tennis, golf, fishing, hunting, racing (horses/cars) and so many more ways to break just one of the Ten Commandments. Think of how many more the world has for the other nine! To be obedient is easy if one is willing to be obedient. Yet if one is looking for excuses the world is full of them – but one has to choose who they’ll follow – either the world and worldly or the Father and the Son!

“An Island”

Some only dream
believing it’s enough
awaking to a scream
no longer found tough;

Wishes making wrong
seem right and good
either weak or strong
for excuses they stood;

Thus the island is lost
somewhere in the mist
troubling now is the cost
having the world kissed!

"Clarifications"

In the most recent essay, “How To, Want To, Need To … Will To Do” there are two areas which need some clarification. The following will be to bring more light to my understanding and clarification so that there can be no doubt to my meanings.

"They in doing so take away the Divinity of the Savior and His Father – Our Heavenly Father – treating them like men/women and not as the Gods which they are and forever will be known."

Our Heavenly Father, or the Father of Our Savior is the same which is referred to at the time of the Baptism of the Savior – when the heavens parted and a voice declared, This is my Beloved Son, in whom I’m well pleased!” Matthew 3:17; Matthew 17:5; Mark 9:7; Luke 9:35; 2 Peter 1:17: Doctrine and Covenants 93:15 and Joseph Smith History 1:17! This is the Father to whom the Savior referred to in all that he did – (the Scriptures are too numerous to mention all – but anyone referring to the life of the Savior in mortality will find a plethora of references). This is the Father with whom we knew in the Pre-existence and to who we will know as we come to know His Son and Our Savior Jesus Christ! This is the Father as testified of by Stephen prior to being stoned, Acts 7:55-56!

Now as a transfer to the Son – Our Lord and Savior with this verse of Scripture: 3 Nephi 9:15 “Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God, I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that are in them are, I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and in me hath the Father glorified his name.” Always remembering, 1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Our Savior Jesus Christ is the same as testified to by His Father – Our Heavenly Father (see Scriptures above) and who exemplified in all his teachings that he was indeed the Christ spoken of by the Prophets. Jesus Christ is the Jehovah of the Old Testament who spoke with the Prophets – face to face – and to which all of the Prophets have testified of in their ministries. Jesus Christ is whom we are to know – intimately – as our brother – our friend – our advocate with the Father – and most of all our Savior who through His Atonement removed Spiritual Death from this Earth and has allowed all men to be saved (less those who deny the Holy Ghost or shed innocent blood). Yet this same Jesus Christ has covenanted that there is more than just being saved – there’s life eternal to return with Him (Jesus Christ) to Our Father in Heaven in the Celestial Kingdom. Paul further tells us of the various kingdoms in 1 Cor. 15:14 (this information is further explained in the Doctrine and Covenants -131:1).

There is only one way to know and confirm the above and that is through the Holy Ghost which testifies of all truth! One must humble themselves – put away the world and worldly – repent of their wrong-doings and pray unto the Father – through our advocate the Savior and ask is this be true! If it is true – then the Holy Ghost will testify it to you!

James 1:5-7 – “If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”

"Let’s not misunderstand many of those who teach in such a manner are good men and women – they’ve great worth – help rear good families – but and this is a big but – they surely know what they’re teaching is not in harmony with the literal truth of the Bible!"

Throughout the Scriptures there are many truths revealed to all men in the Bible – these are to what I refer that we believe ‘literally’ and testify of in all we do, think and say. This would include the Flood, the escape from Egypt, the dividing of the seas, walking on water, feeding the thousands, Jesus being the Son of the Father, the testimonies of the Prophets, and this list would continue to include all of the truths found in the Scriptures.

Let us note that the Savior taught in parables and these are used figuratively to explain or bring understanding to another. It’s taking something which one is familiar with – to teach a true principle with which they are not familiar with. In teaching our children as parents we do this daily – trying to simplify difficult things which they must learn. We understand these teachings – and what their intent is to accomplish – these would be different from the ‘literal truths’ of the Scriptures. (E.G. Eve is the mother of all people and God is like a hen) and much that is not to be taken figuratively (E.G. Mary is the Savior's mother and the Atonement is Infinite).

This would also include the Ten Commandments and the other Commandments added to these by the Father – through the Son (Our Savior) in his teachings and through the Prophets. The Ten Commandments are not suggestions – are not to be violated – are not to be changed (per se’ by man without the gift of being a Seer, Revelator and Prophet). (It should be noted that to my understanding never has a Prophet, Revelator or Seer ever changed any of the Ten Commandments or the others taught and given to man/woman by the Father – through the Savior – via their Prophets.)

When one begins to question the teachings of the Scriptures – or begins to interpret them for another without the proper authority from the Savior and/or through the Prophets – one is on very thin razors. Those who assume by going to schools or taking upon themselves to act in the name of the Father or the Son without having received the proper authority then they are acting under false authority. When one declares the heavens are closed – or the Scriptures cannot be added to or changed (while revising them) must have received revelations – which they’ve said have ceased. They cannot have it both ways – either they’ve received revelation to revise the Bible – to confirm there’s no more revelations – or that the Bible is all there is! When one takes it upon themselves to add or delete from the Bible or Scriptures – which man has done continuously since the late 1st Century starting at about 70AD.

The Scriptures were written for everyone to be able to read them and understand (see James 1:5-7 above)! Presentations like my effort are to encourage one to read prayerfully what’s in the Scriptures for themselves. To humble themselves to decide if there’s one true Church (1 Nephi 14:10) (also see wherein Paul talks about how the Church should be called when he found they were using a variety of names during his travels); or if there should be many? Should men be called to the Priesthood by those without authority or of those with authority of the Father and the Son?

Finally again the most important aspect of all of this; Marriage – eternal Marriage – a Marriage which transcends the grave – passes through the veil – having a family which is eternal forever and ever. Matthew 16:19 “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” 1 Peter 3:7 “Likewise, ye husbands, swell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” Where is this sealing ordinance found – and if it’s not found then Malachi 4:5-6 – “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.” Doctrine and Covenants 2:1-3 “Behold, I will reveal unto you the Priesthood, by the hand of Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers. If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.”

Why is this so important to the Father and the Son (Our Savior)? The first ordinance of the Gospel was the marriage of Adam and Eve – first before all else – and they were married in the Garden of Eden – a marriage without end – no, ‘till death do you part’ or any other such wording. Performed the one having authority – which in these latter days has been restored – for it has not, “the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.” Thus the purpose of this earth was to bring into mortality – flesh and bone (as the Father and the Son) to our spirits from the pre-existence and to become families in marriage of one man and one woman – and their children. If this ordinance cannot be found on this earth at this time – which all recognize as the Latter-days – then why not? If this is the purpose of our creation and the worth of this world – why would it be omitted? (Note: Only due to the restraints of subject I’ll not go into Baptism for the Dead – however, will refer all readers to Paul and his teachings in 1 Cor. 15:29 and from Doctrine and Covenants 127.) It’s through the authority and power of the Priesthood in which these sealing ordinances and baptism for the dead are preformed which can reunite families for the eternities.

Thus if these are indeed the Latter-days – this is most important for all of us to study the Scriptures – to learn to know the Savior intimately – and thus learn to know the Father – for one testifies of the other. We will thus have the understanding of why we need to be obedient to all of the Commandments and what it’s we should be doing in seeking out one Church which teaches all of the saving ordinances for the salvation and eternal life of men/women on this earth. This is not something which one can have another do for them while they’re here in mortality – each must be accountable and responsible for themselves and their families.

These truths are real and evident in the Scriptures – Jesus is the Christ – he came to this Earth to do His Father’s will – our Heavenly Father – and through them and their anointed Prophets we might also return unto them with eternal life forever and ever with our families. I further testify that the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness has been restored in these latter-days and is now on this earth with the keys and authority to bind families in the sealing ordinances and baptisms for the dead for time and all eternity. And that Thomas S. Monson is the LORD’s anointed Prophet on this earth at this time. And I leave these things with you my family, friends and strangers – in the name of Jesus Christ – amen. cjingerson

John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

“How To, Want To; Need To … Will To Do”

“How To, Want To; Need To … Will To Do”
Charles J. Ingerson

Preface:

While many flounder in today’s world and find themselves both lost and feeling alone by the teachings of men/women found confusing and ambiguous – others are able to find the opposite in peace, sureness and strength in the direct teachings of the Savior and his Prophets and Apostles. The clarion clear teachings of the Savior throughout the ages are simple to understand, easy to apply and worth the time expended to learn!

The question then which first comes to mind – is what is the difference in the teachings of men/women and the Savior?

To clarify the men/women referred to are those who profess degrees of Divinity or Secular Learning and called by themselves (or others of the world) to be Preachers, Priests, Rabbi’s, Ministers, Deacons, Fathers, or any other of the worldly designations to preach a doctrine of Philosophies and Scriptures for money as the Gospel of Jesus Christ or in some religions The Will of Allah, or simply God’s Will. Thus in their rhetorical teachings they seek to pacify with minimal involvement of those being taught – power, wealth and community prestige. Some do this knowingly to deceive, beguile and misrepresent – while others do it because they believe it’s for the good of the whole – while still some because it’s a way to provide a living for them and their families.

This is with quiet understanding and strength to say, no one can read the Scriptures literally and then turn and teach the opposite or variations of what is found in the Scriptures knowingly. To pretend to believe the teachings of the Prophets are vague, mysterious, questionable, changeable, or otherwise in need of interpretation is wrong! They in doing so take away the Divinity of the Savior and His Father – Our Heavenly Father – treating them like men/women and not as the God’s which they are and forever will be known.

For those who declare that the Heavens are closed – there’s no more revelations – no more need for Prophets and Apostles is to deny ‘in toto’ the reality of the Father and the Son and they’re teachings. It regulates the Father and the Son to mere mortality and to be changeable – which simply is not an eternal truth!
Let’s not misunderstand many of those who teach in such a manner are good men and women – they’ve great worth – help rear good families – but and this is a big but – they surely know what they’re teaching is not in harmony with the literal truth of the Bible! Some of this is not their fault, per se, but instead the ‘peer pressure’ of centuries of misrepresentation of those who ‘stole’ the Bible and the Teachings of the Savior and Prophets and in their place – gave the Greek Philosophical Rhetoric teachings. They did this so as to enhance those in power and to generate power for themselves. Some did it in such a way that much of the Bible was lost or destroyed – revised – or simply ignored. Some had anyone who disagreed with what they taught – killed (much like is happening today). Some as in days of old ‘stoned’ the Prophets, Apostles and Disciples – while today or in the last two hundred years – have simply done all in their power to destroy anyone teaching such things and the Bible is to be taken literally and that the Heavens are Open and that the Church has been restored in these latter-days.

What equally begs the questions is why so much contention among the various churches?

Killing, destroying, etc. sounds not like the teachings of the Savior – but more along the lines of the adversary – or Satan. Good comes from the Savior – while evil, contention and wrong/bad comes from Satan. Thus one cannot use the tools of one to promote the tools of the other. One can either be one with the Father and the Son – or they are with the adversary – Satan. This is pretty simple doctrine.

In addition, there’s no theologian alive who does not recognize the changes made to the Bible (Scriptures) over the past 2000 years (with many being done in the last 130 years. Prophets of the Old Testament are missing completely – versus have been altered in order to change their meanings – order of the Books of the Old and New Testament are not ‘per se’ chronological – and the list could continue.

Each church in the world – some 60,000 plus alone in the US – must each claim to be the only one and true church on the earth today – they have to or otherwise understand they are in variance with the Scriptures. If they do not make this singular claim – then they’ve no reason to be a Church (See Ephesians Chapter 4)!

How can one know where to turn for truth?

The Savior has taught that revelation – personal revelation will come unto those who exercise faith, prayer, works of service and who’ve a pure heart and love of the Father and the Son! For when one is found in this condition then the Spirit will reveal truth unto each person individually. Therefore each can learn for themselves where to turn to learn of truth.
It’s also important to recognize the difference between good and evil – so as to know where to look. In order to do one must learn to know God the Father and His Son our Savior – for without this knowledge one will only flounder amidst the wind and waves.
1 JN 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God; Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
John 7: 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
John 17: 3 And this is life eternal that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
There’s no difficultly in learning who the Father and the Son are – and our relationship to them – however, one must read the Scriptures themselves to learn of this knowledge!

Matthew 7:21 Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

In verse 23 – is an apparent mistake in translation or transmission – for the Savior is all knowing and therefore would know of all people – good and evil – however, if this Scripture would read – as translated by a Prophet of God – verse 23 – And then will I profess unto them, YOU never knew me; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” It makes sense and restores the attributes of Our Savior – and allowing for importance of US knowing Him and His Father! Of course the Father and the Son know each of us – and they know us each quite well – therefore when we pray and speak with them – we can know that they know and love us – for if this were not so – then they would not be Gods! (End of Note for review)

The Scriptures teach us about the Father and the Son – even with the manmade changes and omissions and deletions – they teach singularly about the Father and the Son – for what other purpose would they have?

The Scriptures teach us about the Commandments – the Laws – the Statutes – the Gospel Ordinances – the Covenants – all of which we need to understand to return with our families to them! What parent would not teach their children all that they need to know to return safely home?

Within the History – there’s wisdom being taught – for if we learn from history we can avoid the pitfalls and mistakes of others – a Prophet of God - Samuel has said,
1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken that the fat of rams..

Yet men would rather not ‘obey’ and would rather wait to ‘sacrifice – i.e. repent’ and enjoy their sin just a little longer. This is why they’re Ten Commandments (with two more added in these Latter-days) but the Ten will suffice. In our day many like to think of the Ten Commandments are general suggestions – or that they interfere with the division between Church and State – or in reality they’re out dated with the singular exception of Thou Shalt Not Kill!

We’ll do a quick review of the Ten Commandments – to compare what we’re to be obedient to – and what the world feels they mean. First we’ll look at what the Savior felt were the most important – and in obedience to these two – one would also be obedient to the other eight:

Matthew 22: 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

These are very simple to understand and apply in our lives – however, for those who’ve worldly designs and feelings – they’re the opposite of what is felt to be necessary. If we love the Lord thy God – we will keep all of the Commandments without exception.

The world having difficulty in even believing in a God or Gods – or defining what they were – unknown, indescribable, without body or form or substance – to them it’s like Wendy and Casper – nice to think about without any meaning. This is neither slighting nor foolish – what the mind cannot visualize it cannot believe! So in spite of the numerous descriptions of both the Father and the Son – by multiple witnesses (Isaiah, Moses, Abraham, Peter, James, John, Stephen, Paul to name a few) – found throughout the Scriptures men/women will not accept these truths – or if they do – it’s with a sense they are not literally true! One might call their belief one of convenience – but not really what they believe privately.

Man/woman have further taken the idea of Loving one’s neighbor as themselves – to a general profession of love – but let the government take care of those less fortunate than themselves. To better understand this – is to understand love and service are one and the same – (see James 1:27) – meaning we are to do what’s needful – for our neighbors as we would do for ourselves.

When one reflects on these two great commandments – one can easily see that if were to be simply obedient to these two the rest would become unneedful. For who would steal, kill, covet, commit adultery, not honor their parents, keep the Sabbath Day holy, not bear false witness or take the name of the Lord in vain?

However, while asking questions about the first two commandments – men/women or the world have allowed wavering on the remaining eight commandments. One can go nowhere – without hearing the Lord’s name taken or used in vain! On any given Sabbath Day – stores, restaurants, sporting events, pleasure taking, or otherwise finding ways not to keep the day holy abound. Adultery is not only condoned but promoted – i.e. remember that adultery is any sexual relationship outside of a legal marriage between a man and a woman. The schools teach it as a ‘way of life’ – the movies, TV, media and press present a glorified view – books and magazines present sexual transgression in all of its varied forms.

Killing is a daily event in our news reporting – coveting what another owns is common-place – honor of parents is attacked daily in music and media – as well as in the schools – till the family as seen by the government of the land is almost no longer the standard. One almost would look at the radio programs of the 1950’s pushing for families to go to Church – work together – to become stronger as being science fiction. Lying is common place – and is centered from our supposed leaders of our nation – into the home and schools of our nation. Sadly – cheating, lying, stealing are all approved behavior – unless one is caught and can create news to sell advertising – does it garner much attention.

Idol worship needs only be referenced as common place and within the media – music – video interest – have made otherwise character actor and crooners into household names and symbols of worship. One needs only to consider the recent death of one of this group and the media, press and idealization made of his life.

Yet how can we be found in obedience to the Ten Commandments?

First and foremost one has to know what the Ten Commandments say and mean. To do this one must read the Scriptures! Anything else is second hand at best. Read what the Savior presented and how Moses presented them to those of his group fleeing Egypt. A commandment is a hard and fast direction to follow without movement to the right or the left. A commandment puts forth what is to be done and is simple enough for all to discern how they should behave to be found in obedience.

Thus we learn the How To – by reading the Scriptures – pondering upon them – praying unto the Father – and being open to the promptings of the Spirit. We have also to have the Want To – to be obedient – ‘…to obey – rather than sacrifice…’ – and understand the Need To – for our eternal salvation and eternal life – thus knowing of the will to do the will of the Father and the Son.

The Ten Commandments are the word and teachings of the Father and the Son – they give moral and pure guidance as to how we can learn to know who they are – and our relationship to them. They are counter to almost everything one can find within the world of men/women – either today or in the millennium gone by since the time of Adam and Eve. They contain a wisdom which supersedes anything brought to the forum by the schools of men/women. They give us a direction and plan to apply in our individual lives and thus to our loved ones to follow.

We need to be found in obedience to the Ten Commandments for the Savior has said, “If ye love me, keep my Commandments!” That’s pretty simple direction and clarification of what it means to love the Father and the Son (for remember the Son does nothing that he’s not seen his Father do!).
Therefore we’ve to have the ‘want to’ – the want to be obedient and we know what we’re to be obedient to – with all that’s expected! There’s no excuse for anyone who can read – and understand – what’s expected. If with this knowledge we choose not to be obedient or to follow the ways of the world then we will be held accountable and responsible for all that we do – and cannot blame the world or the temptations of the adversary. We exercise the Want To though our agency to choose the right over the wrong!

Next we need to address the Need To!

We need to be obedient – we know the how to and should have the desire of the Want To – now we need to apply the Need To. What do we need to do? We need to be found doing the Will of the Father and the Son in all of our lives – not just in private – but in all we think, say and do. We need to willingly be found obedient in all things as they relate to the Father and the Son! Anything which deviates from this obedience is unacceptable to the Father and the Son! Thou Shalt – doesn’t sound like a suggestion or even like a maybe – however it is a Commandment!!

Much to the surprise of many we’ve also to be obedient to the Statutes and Laws and all the words of the Savior! Yes, most know of the Ten Commandments – but yet there’s more – and it’s found in the Scriptures – without guile or guise – we’ve been taught by the Savior and the Prophets and the Apostles. If one has not read and pondered all of the Scriptures then they most likely do not know all of the Commandments, Statutes and Laws of the Father and the Son.

If one lets others read and teach what they believe the Scriptures say – then one is still accountable and responsible for what is really said, intended and to be done! Or better what we need to be doing in our mortal probations. Anyone who believes differently than this is wrong! This is one area of our mortal probation it would be very wise not to be wrong!

The need to read, pray, to be in righteous service to others, pondering and daily reporting and speaking with Father – through the Son. This doesn’t mean idle oft repetitive prayers – but to sincerely enter into conversation with the Father. We need to have continual open lines of communications that we might be able to feel the promptings of the Spirit in our daily lives.

We need to know the Scriptures – for several reasons – but among them the most important are: 1) to be obedient – as we’ve been commanded to read and ponder the Scriptures; 2) in them we will find the voice of the Father and the Son – we’ll learn to discern their voices and that of their servants the Prophets and Apostles – as we know the voice of our family or loved ones; 3) we need to learn from the mistakes and righteous choices of those who’ve gone before – what they experienced – the differences between the righteous and unrighteous; 4) we need to learn what exactly obedience means to each of us individually and as a family – and that this is to choose the right; 5) we need to read the Scriptures so that they and we are one – as the Father and the Son are one; and 6) we need to know who we are – why we’re here and where we can go if found in total obedience to the Father and the Son.

When the Savior was on the earth in his mortal ministry – when he taught what did he teach? He taught from the Scriptures – and he taught as one having authority! For those who followed him he opened the Scriptures to them as none had before. Even as a child in the Temple the great men surrounded him as he taught them correctness and clarity of the Scriptures.

What do Angels teach when they appear unto men/women? They teach the Scriptures – nothing more or less! They bring awareness and life into these sacred words for our understanding.

What are we commanded to teach to our brothers and sisters – to our children – to our friends and also strangers? We’re commanded to teach the Scriptures – and to call unto repentance and to come unto the Lord. The only way this can be done by us – is to know the Scriptures – to know the Father and the Son – intimately! We need to know who we are – why we’re here and where if worthy we will be going!

Now there’s more difficulty as unlike what man teaches that the Scriptures are closed – and there is no need for more; in which they limit the powers of the Father and the Son; the Scriptures are open – there’s continual revelation and thus we’ve to be keeping up. If one doesn’t believe that the heavens are open – and instead believe what men and the schools teach, they’ve made their decision based not on the Scriptures but on the wisdom of men!

We need to understand the difference between the motivation of men/women (and the world) and that of the Father and the Son. The world is motivated by wealth, power, avarice, lusts, greed’s and cares about the self first and others second. Selfishness is the motivation of the world – simple and clear – they can color it anyway they want – it’s still selfishness.

The Motivation of the Father and the Son – is that man/woman might have joy – and this joy is in righteousness – being found in the righteous service of others making sure all are cared for to their abilities. In being so motivated they gave man/woman agency – the ability to choose righteousness and thus to be happy and have joy. There’s no joy to be had in unrighteousness – and anyone who claims to the opposite they do not understand the Scriptures. Redundantly speaking – happiness (or joy) can only be found in obedience to the Father and the Son. This motivation of the Father and the Son is totally unselfish! They’ve given us choices – their gain is having their children return unto them in the Celestial Kingdom – which gain is also those who attain this glory with their families – thus unselfish.

We then need to choose which our motivation will be – selfishness or unselfishness! What type of leader will be for our loved ones and families – our friends and our neighbors – strangers which we meet – will we teach by example that which is re-teachable and what we’d want others in turn to become like – or will we be negligent and teach little of eternal worth? Will we be striving to improve our station – peer acceptance – or worldly recognition – or will be striving to elevate all those we meet to higher standards and love of one another?

Motivation is simple; it’s the motives for our actions! We need to clarify to ourselves what ours will be. Thus we need to read and ponder the Scriptures – prayerfully go unto the Father for further understanding and clarity of how each Scripture applies to them so that they can be of more value to others in building up the Kingdom of the Lord.

Having the Will to Do!

We must be found putting aside the worldly – taking on the armor of the Father and the Son – being malleable, teachable, reachable and otherwise having a contrite spirit and a broken heart – thus able to be employed in the Father’s garden and vineyard. Catching the Vision and Wisdom of those who’ve gone before – disciples, Apostles, Prophets and mostly those like you and I – ones who believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness and of the Scriptures – all of the teachings of the Savior and the Prophets!

Understanding who we are – we’ll have the will to do the word of the Lord! One must differentiate oneself from the world – to put aside selfishness – to go forth in righteousness – to be found with will to do what we’re supposed to be about and not just what we’d like to be about.

The will to do is a commitment – better a covenant between us the Father through the Son! What exactly have we committed or covenanted to do? We’ve covenanted (will use this word here-on-out) to repent of our wrongdoings (and to attempt with all our hearts, minds and strength to do them no more; we’ve covenanted to be baptized by one having authority into His Church (and none other); we’ve covenant to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost from those having authority; we’ve covenanted to be found in obedience to all of the Commandments as found in all of the Scriptures revealed to the world in these latter-days; we’ve covenanted to be found in His service – willingly obedient in all things unto Him and His glory; we’ve covenanted to read, understand and heed the Scriptures; we’ve covenanted to share with all the truths which we’re allowed to discern with the world – starting with our families, loved ones, neighbors, friends and strangers; we’ve covenanted to proclaim out testimonies to all the world; we’ve covenanted to be found sustaining the Prophet on this Earth in these Latter-days and those called to preside in the Stakes, Wards, Branches of His Church; and we’ve covenanted to forgive and forget all others and to judge not others or their beliefs.

The list of the covenants which a child of God enters into with the Father through the Son are many – some that all are aware of and others which are individual. In each of these covenants we realize there are both a promise of blessings for obedience and an equal promise of penalties if we are not obedient! We understand that both the Father and we are equally responsible for their respective part of the covenants. One might remember the Scripture, Doctrine and Covenants 121:34-35 (one might read
Doctrine and Covenants 121:34-40);

34 Behold there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen?

35 Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men.
Thus we can see the will to do is predicated upon our motivation to do things within our lives – we choose either selfishly or selflessly – but always the choice is ours to make.

Epilogue:

We started by talking about men/women who flounder in the world – seeking guidance – but relying on the worldly to provide this guidance and not upon the Father and the Son and their Prophets. Many proclaim on bumper stickers, wearing of religious medallions, or otherwise saying they’re saved because they believe in the Savior. While it’s true they’re saved – but this is because of the Atonement of the Savior where all men/women are saved – lest they commit murder (the shedding of innocent blood – or denying the Holy Ghost) – this does not mean they’ll have exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom with their families and loved ones. Many are willing to accept far less than this and refuse to believe literally in the Scriptures which teach this doctrine of eternal life with the Father and the Son.

The four elements of the ‘How To, Want To, Need To and the Will To Do’ that much is expected, especially where much is given or covenanted. However, as in all things in the Gospel of Jesus Christ – our agency and/or our motivations will help us determine which we’ll really follow – the Father and the Son or men/women of the world. As said long ago and far away – choose wisely – your eternal salvation depends on this singular decision!

In closing I’d like to bear my testimony of the truthfulness of all things as found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ! That He lives and because He lives we too can live and be found in the company of our Father with our families for all eternity! That in these latter-days that His Church is once more upon this Earth with a Prophet at its head – and Apostles with the Royal Priesthood restored by the hand of Peter, James and John! That this Prophet is Thomas S. Monson – chosen of the Lord! I know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true and restored Church spoken of in the Holy Scriptures and by all of the Prophets since the beginning of time until our day! May one and all know these things are true – I so testify in the name of Jesus Christ – my Lord and Savior – Charles J. Ingerson on this day – 3 September 2009 – amen!
